July 6-10

This week, campers will learn from Woody, Buzz, and the Toys that even when we don’t get along at first, everyone’s unique strengths matter. By showing up for one another and using our gifts to serve others, we can make life happen!

July 27-31

This week, campers will celebrate the power of working together and discover that when we team up to serve others, we can do more than we ever could alone. By using our unique strengths and serving one another, we become champions of making life happen!

FAQ’s

Are the Junior Camp weeks different?

Yes! Each week of camp is unique beginning with the theme. The theme is our way of conveying the idea of “making life happen” in a way that is age-appropriate & relevant.

If you’ve been a part of junior camp before you know how engaging our camp counselors are in their dramas and theme projects (supporting the truth of the day). They have a passion for the campers and it shows on the faces of the kids smiling from ear to ear!

Love Projects are unique as well. Serve Camp works hard to make sure kids are exposed to a variety of needs in our community. Based on the schedules of individuals, families, and non-profit organizations we’re often limited to the “when” we can help hence the variety week to week. Keep in mind, there are core love projects kids will participate in each week that do not change. Also, If you’ve been a part of the camp you know that things are fluid come camp week because of how fast (or slow) kids work, weather, changes in non-profits schedules, cancellation of love projects, etc. This is the reality of life and kids experience the necessary serving spirit of “go with it”. It’s not about us, it’s about others and their needs.

Does Junior Camp do the same projects as Teen Camp?

Each camp is unique in the variety of love projects the campers participate in. We work very hard to provide age-appropriate love projects. Our camp teams are divided between 1st-2nd, 3-4th, & 5th grade teams. Our schedules reflect the unique needs of each grade group including on/off site love projects, play, and break times.

How are teams formed?

Teams are broken up into teams consisting of rising 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, & 5th grade.

What is Friday Celebration?

After a hard week of work the junior campers enjoy an awesome party all day on Friday. This is our way of thanking them & celebrating their love. We can’t tell you what the party will be just yet (it’s a surprise!) but trust us they will love it. This is ALWAYS one of the favorite parts of Serve Camp for the kids. Bigger, better is our motto for this party!

What kind of training is required for the camp counselors?

What a great question!  Each camp counselor goes through an internal training process before they are allowed to become a Serve Camp counselor.  Along with our internal training process, each counselor is required to be certified (and active) in CPR, First Aid, and AED.

Where are love projects located?

Camp begins and ends at our camp headquarters, however, campers may go offsite for love projects. Project locations are based on the needs of the individual, families, community or non-profits we are serving. Schedules will be available to view on the first day of camp.

How are campers transported?

We hired trained professional and licensed drivers to transport our campers. At times we will recruit licensed and insured volunteers who have passed a background check to transport campers as needed.

Is Serve Camp a faith based camp?

Serve Camp is a camp based on the life and message of Jesus. Jesus teaches us that love leads to life. Each day campers are introduced to a truth Jesus gave us regarding how we can make life happen (i.e. love, putting others first, servant leadership, sacrifice). Campers are challenged daily to join Jesus in making life happen by embodying his life and message. During small groups counselors debrief the truth of the day with campers in an age-appropriate way, talk about the reality of living out that truth (how we can live it out and how difficult it can be), and challenge them to be life makers now and as a dream for their life.

Is Serve Camp associated with other organizations?

Serve Camp is a 501(C)3 non-profit corporation in the state of Virginia and is an integrated auxiliary of Common Ground Church.
